Meet the Requirements and Learn The Process

Ages 18-24: Texas requires adults ages 18-24 to complete a 6-hour theory course as well as a Road Test.

Ages 25-plus: Adults over the age of 25 must pass a written test and the Road Test.

By combining the theory requirement with in-car driver training (which SafeWay offers), you’ll be better prepared for the Road Test.

Apply For Your Permit

Upon completing the course, you’ll receive the ADE-1317 certificate.

Schedule a DPS visit with the certificate and your ID documents to obtain your learner’s license.

Important: Please inform DPS that the learner license is for practice/training and you do not intend to take your Road Test.
