The SafeWay Story
Spring Branch Driving School
SafeWay Driving was founded in 1973 by educators Gene and Jeanne Walker. Originally named Spring Branch Driving Schools, their relentless dedication to teaching young men and women to drive the safe way throughout local communities produced responsible drivers and satisfied customers.
Changing of the Guard
The Walkers grew the organization for 37 years prior to selling to one of their former students, former professional NASCAR driver Brad Coleman and his family who had been friends and fellow educators with the Walkers for over 40 years.
Nationally Respected Authority
Better known as "Coach Walker," Eugene Fowler Walker became a nationally respected authority in the driver training industry. Renowned for his "Commentary Driving" training techniques, which serve as the cornerstone in the namesake "SafeWay Driving System," Coach and his wife successfully built a respected brand.
A group of local investors were impressed with where SafeWay was heading and saw an opportunity to grow the company even further. After purchasing SafeWay from the Colemans, they went to work on creating a franchise business model centered around serving people in their respected communities all across Texas.
Modernizing A Legend
The Coleman family went to work modernizing every aspect of SafeWay using their combined business and driving expertise. In person classrooms turned into online classrooms. The tried and true curriculum was taught in newer cars. Brad continued racing and representing SafeWay as he travelled the country speaking to high school students about the importance of driving safety.
Family Owned. Expert Driven.
In 2022 Brad bought SafeWay back with a clearn vision and renewed focus on putting the customer first and becoming the cutting edge in creating modern driver education that makes learning to drive engaging and intuitive.
